After a long-term career in the industry, a contractor turned to Gamble + design to help build a one-of-a-kind Sea Ranch residence for himself and his wife. The LEED Platinum home maximizes the views from the seafront bluff lot and is designed to age with the couple into their golden years. The intensive ground-up project drew on all of Gamble + design’s multiple areas of expertise.
When the property was merely a plot of land tucked in between two adjacent properties, Gamble +design was brought in to perform initial space planning for the entire structure. The full space plans incorporated the client’s desire for an indoor/outdoor lifestyle with multiple courtyards while sustaining minimal impact on the surrounding environment.
Upon completion of the initial space plans, Gamble + design reached out to the renowned Sea Ranch firm Malcolm Davis Architecture to collaborate on the three dimensional composition of the structure and exterior details such as the distinctive whale watching deck. Gamble + DESIGN brought together and led a full team of qualified professionals including Empire Contracting Inc. and Beyond Efficiency to achieve the rigorous LEED Platinum certification for the home.
Once the team was assembled, Gamble + design placed full focus on the interior design of the space. Throughout the process Gamble + design worked with Malcolm Davis Architects to accentuate the push and pull between the interior and exterior to maximize flow, highlight vistas and provide comfortable utility for the client. Homage to the classic Sea Ranch aesthetic is evident in the sloping wood ceilings, window benches and pocket barn doors throughout the interior.
Custom millwork is employed throughout the home including cabinets, closets and furniture. The craft inspired design introduces singular elements including a burl redwood countertop in the kitchen and Heath Ceramic tiles in the kitchen, fireplace and master bath.
Memorable details like rugs and artwork were regionally sourced per client request. Knowing the client well (there is a family connection) allowed Gamble + DESIGN to cater to respective client needs as displayed in the inclusion of a sewing room upstairs and the creation of 2 unique work triangles within the kitchen tailored to each individual.
A customized lighting design by Murray Agnew of Gamble + design played a significant role in meeting LEED energy useage standards. Motorized shades ensure that sun angles are treated appropriately for maximum efficiency. High efficacy lights managed through a Lutron HomeWorks® System allow the homeowners to plan light useage in advance, reserve favored settings and set the ambience for a room in the moment through the touch of a button.
Gamble + design ushered this home from plot of land to a fully realized living experience. The perfect reward for a lifetime of hard work for the clients.
