New construction LEED Platinum Sea Ranch California kitchen by gamble plus design and Malcom Davis Architecture has custom LED lighting, burl redwood countertop, sloping wood ceiling and sweeping views

Sea Ranch LEED Platinum Home

Sea Ranch, California

After a long career in the building industry, a contractor turned to gamble + design to help build a one-of-a-kind Sea Ranch residence for himself and his wife. The LEED Platinum home maximizes the views from the seafront bluff lot and is designed to age with the couple into their golden years. Throughout the process, gamble + design assumed the project manager role and worked with Malcolm Davis Architecture to accentuate the push and pull between the interior and exterior to maximize flow, highlight vistas and provide comfortable utility for the client. Homage to the classic Sea Ranch aesthetic is evident in the sloping wood ceilings, window benches and pocket barn doors throughout the interior.

Custom millwork is employed throughout the home including cabinets, closets, and furniture. The craft inspired design introduces singular elements including a burl redwood countertop in the kitchen and Heath Ceramic tiles in the kitchen, fireplace and master bath. A customized lighting design by Murray Agnew of gamble + design played a significant role in meeting LEED energy usage standards. Motorized shades ensure that sun angles are treated appropriately for maximum efficiency. High efficacy lighting allows the homeowners to plan light usage in advance, reserve favored settings and set the ambience for a room in the moment through the touch of a button.

“We worked with Jeni on a complex project in The Sea Ranch. Jeni was very good to work with. Her plans were very detailed and accurate, she was always available to meet and answer questions, and provided information in a timely manner. We look forward to working with her again.”
